Todd Cordell: P4 New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers: Taylor Hall is back!!

All eyes will be on Hughes in this one. This should be fun. NY starting a weak D and no top line.. but looks like lines 2-4, while we have one NHL pair D and our top line and shutdown line, but a bottom 6 of guys that likely won't make the team. Curious what any of those bottom 6 show, and what offense Zajac can produce, if any. And then Blackwood's performance. Really excited to watch Hall-Hughes-Palmieri *ideally* skate circles around NY's 2nd line and AHL defense.

Seeing Hughes with Hall should be interesting.

You'd think Coleman and Zajac are defensively responsible enough to cover for Simmonds. Dying to see if this guy has anything left in the tank. Wasn't impressed with him getting hurt in his first practice as a Devil.

NY bringing the B team, but you never know how this plays out in reality. We didn't exactly bring the heat to MSG and walked out with a win. We got outshot but I thought 5 v 5 we held our own.

It's really most of their forwards besides the top line.. right? And a bunch of AHL dmen plus Staal. so, a bunch of AHL dmen. But we're a buncha AHL dmen plus Subban and what's left of Greene. Should be fun.

They're certainly giving McLeod a chance. I believe after tonight he's the only guy who will have played in three preseason games.

Yeah, that was nuts. I agreed with that guy (Jimbo?) about his other point but was worried it sounded like I agreed with the anti Corsi/Stat thing. I don't; and I thought his attitude toward Todd was douche.

I feel like even if McLeod plays well he should be in the Bing to start. He's got to show he can play consistently good hockey.

I mean realistically, I feel like Malsev, McLeod, Bastian and Anderson are all playing for call up positioning. The only guy like this I'm expecting on the team is Hayden.

He's been like that forever. He failed math in high school and has a deep seeded grudge against anything with numbers. It's sad that his psychological trauma ruins so much of his life but at this point he can't be helped.

They are giving him a chance to make the team because if he doesn't now there is a good chance he's done.

eh, I don't think he's done if he doesn't stick this year. He's 21, and this is his 3rd camp. Most of players play 40+ NHL games around now or the following season.

He only has 55 AHL games last year and 6 the year before. Jeez.. only put up 6 goals and 27a in 55 games. I think he's ok to keep in the A for another season and get called up. We may have another roster spot or 2 up front next season for him. I have minimal confidence Simmonds is brought back next year, but you never know.

Next season's lineup shouldn't look too different from this year, minus Simmonds.

It's incredible the turnaround in talent we've had in the past 2 seasons, thanks to those lotto picks. Nico, Jack, Gusev, 3 new top-6 additions, Subban, and I'm including Boqvist and Bratt too.. 2 guys not on the radar a few years ago.

Only difference is a generational player was there with one of them, a franchise goalie with another, and then the season they didn't win Makin happened to be the 2nd overall pick after OV.

I just don't like handouts and would rather have pride in team management without the gifts.

It's part of the sport, for better or worse. Somebody has to win the lottery and I don't think it's better to just guarantee the worst team gets the top pick. Winning draft lotteries doesn't guarantee you anything, look at Edmonton.

When Pittsburgh won the lottery though they were always guaranteed 1st or 2nd pick. Our chances of winning the lottery were something like less than 6% each time. It's not like it was just "handed" to us because we didn't have a great chance of winning. Pittsburgh essentially walked into generational talent because their franchise was running out of money and refused to field real teams.

Years later Buffalo tried to tank their way into Connor McDavid but ended up with Jack Eichel. Lots of teams started tanking. It was awful for the sport.

I don't believe The Devils tanked to get these players. We stunk and got lucky.
Hell, even the Rangers won their last game last season and played things straight. They were gifted Kaapo Kakko who they believe is even better then Jack Hughes.

I don't feel guilt about what we got and honestly, I'm a little happy for the Rangers. We got some gifts from the hockey gods. You don't question if you deserve it. You just sincerely say 'Thank You!'

With all the bad poop that's happened to this franchise with Kovy having his contract invalidated and us getting penalized for cap circumvention which was a complete (frank)ing joke. For Parise leaving. For all the crap we put up with being the third team in the NY area. For the refs screwing us since the Koharski donut incident, For winning three cups with parking lot parades vs. a ride down the canyon of hero's. For all that stuff and more.... I'll gladly take a little luck and never look back. This franchise has had to earn pretty much everything. The greatest player (supposedly) called us a (frank)ing Mickey Mouse Franchise. Classy.

I really thought they did a great job. Daneyko deserves some props for that one.

In 1995 we won the cup and the freakin Rangers had a better video of their team then we did as cup winners. Granted everyone would rather win the cup but it was just highlight as to what a polished organization the Rangers were compared to us.

The Devils are now much better about details like this... because the Devil is always in the details.

Actually not to found of either Matt Loughlin or Amanda Stein. They are like the beginers guide to hockey and it sucks to have everythung presented to you like you have never watched the sport of hockey before.

I get the growing the game in jersey and bringing in new audiences but it would be nice to have our hockey ppl be a little more hockey hardcore. Dont get me wront I love the direction they are heading and coverage just not a fan of the personalities at all.

She isnt to hard on the eyes. With Amanda she will do 10 interviews and if you watched the first then you watched all 10.

Some former players would be nice imo. I watch a lot of the other teams videos on game centre and some of them have roundtables of former players and they talk like everyone they are talking to has played jr hockey or has followed hockey their entire lives and theres no "and for those of you that dont know " everytime something is said lol.
